Amelia Hoover Green

Amelia Hoover Green joined the Department of History and Politics in September 2012, after completing her PhD in Political Science at Yale University. Prof. Hoover Green conducts research in two key areas: the causes and control of violence against civilians during wartime, and the methodological challenges associated with quantitative research on violence. Her methodological work includes work on record linkage and multiple systems estimation approaches to estimates of wartime casualties. Prof. Hoover Green has also served as Consultant with the Human Rights Data Analysis Group, as Knowledge Management Expert for UN Action Against Sexual Violence in Armed Conflict, and as a Consultant to a number of war crimes trials. These experiences working with human rights advocates and the legal system have contributed to a stream of research concerning politics within and between human rights organizations, especially as it relates to the turn toward quantification in the policy world.
